The Kerem Tunnel is the first bike tunnel to be constructed in Israel and was officially opened in the year 2000 as part the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycling route around the capital.

The tunnel links Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. It is located in southern Israel within Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the nearest.  נווה פריצקי Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

נווה פריצקי Inauguration of the tunnel that is 2.1 kilometers long took place in Jerusalem and the Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin, Mayor Moshelion and Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman of the company) along with hundreds of cyclists.

Jerusalem was once very well-known tourist destination due to its historical past.  נווה פריצקינווה פריצקי Elkin said that apart from its rich history, modern tourism is also incorporated into the Jerusalem city. "The opening of this tunnel project is another part of the growth of the city of Jerusalem as well as its development into a desirable tourist city for all types of audiences throughout Israel and around the world."

Elkin, who heads the project together with Jerusalem Municipality said that his ministry invests hundreds of millions in Jerusalem's tourism development and in the creation innovative activities and ventures that tie the rich history of Jerusalem to its future. I would like to invite cyclists everywhere to take a trip and enjoy the new, well-maintained and modern route that overlooks Old Jerusalem.

Elkin's Ministry and the Tourism Ministry budgeted the project.

Elkin declared that the Kerem Tunnel project was a key tool in realizing the dream of altering the way of transportation throughout Jerusalem. "The new tunnel connecting to Jerusalem Ring Path will join existing bicycle paths and those that will paved in its areas. It is intended to encourage biking among the residents of Jerusalem and encourage the green revolution in transport in the capital."


The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to transfer the main sewer line toward the Sorek purification plant.

Road construction, installation and testing of electrical and safety systems are just a few of the ongoing works to make the tunnel safer throughout the year.

The Kerem Tunnel provides access to special recreation areas, such as Ein Kerem neighbourhood, the biblical aquarium and zoo as well the historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh, Ein Laban Ein Laban, and Ein Haniyeh.
